BRAKES 5 3 1 Drain the entire system V V t t ti e r V 3 2 Thoroughly flush the system with clean alcohol 188 i tt t E V proof or hydraulic system cleaning fluid such as ff A W Declene r 3 Replace all rubber parts of the system including V W E i bieke here QQ EE JT r r l ree r c A 4 Refill the system r a 5 Bleed the ereiem e le e l BLEEDING HYDRLAULIC SYSTEM F4 r i f l i i srltllili z W vii The hydraulic brake system must be bled whenever any M 8 L l z lr r line has been disconnected or air has in some way i uw em df entered the system A spongy pedal feeling when the W it l 1 TT brakes are applied may indicate presence of air in the 3 L V if tt system The system must be absolutely free of air at all times fg V l pp p e r 2 PRESSURE BLEEDING V file e V 1 r i 1 Clean all dirt from top of main cylinder and remove eeee e cylinder cover and rubber diaphragm 2 Reduce iluiu level iu main cylinder until reservoirs i e e e e e are approximately half fun Fig 3 Broke Bleeder Adapter Too J 22489 Ins r ed NOTE Make sure brake fluid in bleeder equip ment is at operating level and that the equipment will remain submerged during bleeding Place the is capable of exerting 30 to 50 lbs hydraulic loose end of bleeder hose into the container Be sure pressure on the brake system the hose end is submerged in the fluid 3 Install brake bleeder adapter J 22489 Fig 3 on NOTE Carefully monitor fluid level at main main cylinder Connect hose from bleeder equipment cylinder during manual bleeding operations Do to bleeder adapter and open release valve on bleeder not bleed enough fluid at one time to drain the equipment reservoirs completely Replenish the reservoirs 4 Install brake bleeder wrench Tool J 21472 on with fluid while bleeding to insure a sufficient bleeder valve at wheel cylinder and install one end of amount of fluid is in the main cylinder at all bleeder hose on bleeder valve Fig 4 times To insure that outside air is not sucked 5 Pour a sufficient amount of brake fluid into a trans back into the hydraulic system close the bleeder parent container to insure that end of bleeder hose valve before the brake pedal reaches the floor will remain submerged during bleeding Place the loose end of bleeder hose into the container Be sure 5 Tgpiilvvgheggu c 71m rkb d9r Val bi lumwlrg Ts O1 the hose end is submerged in the fluid tu S1 1 nderc C gl appmixlma 8 Y O A 6 Open wheel cylinder bleeder valve by turning Tool m OW y Epmss r epede Just before brake LL21472 Cmmt rclockwisg approximately 1 3 Of a peual reaches the end of its travel close bleeder turn and observe flow of fluid at end of bleeder hose Xalve and allow bligke pedal to rdum Slowly to me 7 Close bleeder valve tightly as soon as bubbles stop u Y eeleeeee pOSmOn Repeat thls procedure mm and brake fluid flows in a solid stream from the l bleeder hOSe I vw 2 rl ru jr 8 Remove brake bleeder wrench and bleeder hose from i wheel cylinder bleeder valve Rr 9 Repeat Steps 4 through 8 on the remaining wheel W e I e r g cylinders it M I U 10 Disconnect bleeder equipment from brake bleeder i i ii i t tztt V iii adapter cover J 22489 i ii K if 11 Remove bleeder adapter J 22489 Wipe all areas dry l Y Q of fluid if fluid was spilled during adapter removal r v E 12 Fill main cylinder reservoirs to within 1 4 of Vll 4 reservoir rear rims r J Y ii e l 13 Install main cylinder diaphragm and cover us K fi e MANUAL BLEEDING ir 1 Clean all dirt from top of main cylinder and remove rr 8 cylinder cover and rubber diaphragm A 2 Fill main cylinder reservoirs E l i 3 Install brake bleeder wrench Tool J 21472 on re gif i i i bleeder valve at wheel cylinder and install one end of S t e bleeder hose on bleeder valve Fig 4 4 Pour a sufficient amount of brake fluid into a trans Fig 4 B1eeding Brokes Using Brnke Bleeder Wrench parent container to insure that end of bleeder hose Teo 1 21472 CORVAIR SHOP MANUAL SUPPLEMENT
